Academic Burnouts?
Academic burnouts, a negative emotional, physical and mental reaction caused by various factors, resulting in exhaustion and reduced ability in school. According to gitnux.org’s article “High School Student Burnout Statistics: Market Report & Data,” 56.67% of high school students experienced burnout.
Students all over the world are fighting for grades, academic validation and preparing for their future ahead of them, resulting in them being overworked and setting themselves unrealistic expectations, hence causing them to burn out.
Symptoms includes; negative emotions towards learning, failing to absorb information and being exhausted, burnouts could be self-diagnosed. Burnouts, if not managed and treated, could cause demotivation, insomnia and mental problems (such as depression and anxiety).
However, do not fear, as there is a way to heal from burnouts and they are only temporary. Fyodor Dostoevsky states, “You will burn and you will burn out; you will be healed and come back again.”. Here are some methods to overcome academic burnouts:
Good Time Management
Piles of schoolwork, lack of sleep and procrastination are only some factors that cause burnout. Therefore, it is important to set specific time to complete these tasks and essential activities for every human’s well-being.
Providing time to complete work while also getting adequate rest and doing what makes a student happy is essential to all student’s academic performance and well-being. By doing so, it reduces the chance of burning out, allowing students to learn without the sense of exhaustion while also keeping up with work.
Letting Out Stress
It’s normal for students to feel stressed. Talking to a friend, meditating, exercise, etc., could help with releasing stress. These simple and mundane activities could be effective in helping students face stress, burnouts and other mental distress that they might face.
Positive Mindset
It might sound cliche, but having a positive mindset could help students to face burnouts. By setting simple goals and positive self-talk, these small thoughts can help motivate students and improve their performance and personal growth !
